Breathing new life into the function of footwear.

GEOTREK is an outdoor footwear proposal that examines the restrictions of current static designs. This project explores the potential use of smart materials to create a shoe that adapts to changes in the environment.

Current footwear fails to adapt, particularly in rain and snow, which can compromise the effectiveness of traction.

GEOTREK considers the application of shape memory polymer to morph the geometry of an outsole to provide better traction in unpredictable conditions. When triggered by exposure to different temperatures and water, this material can morph to a shape best suited for the new weather.
